Villa doors...

I took a shortcut home the other day and found this...
I can't decide whether it's simply fabulous or not fabulous at all but I have certainly never seen anything quite like it on the lovely Auckland villas I showed you here and here.

Sadly, my first thought is that it looks a nightmare to clean. When did I turn into a 1950s housewife and if I have why does my own house look a lot less clean than I'd like?

I will leave you to ponder just how much copper is enough while I take my boys back across the ditch to Australia for a spring break. Friends, family, a christening, my school reunion, free and willing babysitters and hopefully a little sun.

I may blog sporadically and I will probably visit you and your blogs. I will definitely finish the darn Martin Amis book that has been putting me to sleep most nights.

  1. Hi Ann that door is Amazing ! I love copper things. You would have to give it a quick clean literally every day though. Have a great trip. Xo

  4. Thinking it's pretty fab myself! And who cares about little things like cleaning when it looks this good. Can you tell that I find the practicalities rather boring? Form over function for me every time! K xx

  5. The door looks fabulous like this, but I think you might need to visit often to see if it changes to a shade of green. Just to satisy your cleaning worries!
Enjoy your break back home. Let's hope the rain has stopped by the time you get back.

  6. I can't make up my mind on the door so while I think about it enjoy your break in Australia. Not much sun happening here in Brisbane unfortunately. Where did Spring go? Enjoy! ;-)

  7. Have a great time back in Oz!
I think the copper door is cool, just because it's so different and it would be quite hard to make I think but I also thought (hmmmm.... finger prints) when I saw it. Safe and fun travels back to the best country on earth (hehhehehee, not biased am I!). Jxx

  8. Ann, thank you for stopping by, for your generous comment, and for your insight. When we were in the hotel lobby in Istanbul that fateful day, we watched not only CNN but the BBC, ITN, and Euro News (think that's the proper name designate) for updates. There were many comments within the group about how professional the anchors/broadcasters/reporters were, for we understood that it could not be easy for any of you (and commented as such), constantly on air, dealing with the horror of news that defied definition.

All of you performed an enormous service that day: You kept the world informed but, very importantly, your level voices and professional presentations were a calming influence throughout the world. This is a clumbsy way of saying Thank You, for so many abstrations are involved, but, from the heart, Thank You.

Perhaps the people behind the door lived in East Africa. This copper looks shinny and thin like Zambian copper. When we lived in Nairobi, there were scattered copper doors in the wealthy suburbs (and copper kitsch for mortals in stores).

    Enjoy your break!!

  9. I love it! Going by how behind I am on all my other cleaning tasks, I suspect it would be a bit neglected at my house :)

  10. I like it because it is different (though definitely not practical), but is it just me, or can anyone else see the weird looking faces in the lower part of the copper on the door?

  11. Gosh, if that door was on a house where I live it would be prised off its hinges and stolen! This just shows I need to move house. :(

    Enjoy your spring break!

  15. I am not too sure about the door. I think it is a bit of fun, at someone else's house. I couldn't be bothered cleaning it at all. How lucky though to find such an interesting thing on your walk. Enjoy the trip.

  16. Hi Ann,

I hope you're enjoying your holiday..next time you're in Melbourne, I'd love to catch up with you for a coffee. Your poor hubby..we were at the game (we're Saints supporters). It didn't do my heart condition any good I can tell you! We went through a similar one last year and away we go again this week! I'm beginning to question my sanity following football..Rachaelxx
