Friday feeling...

Friday and time for an Auckland villa door.... I think this appeals because what I'd really like to do for the next month is plant myself on that bench and watch the world walk past... or the rain thunder down. Auckland has been doing what it does best this week - pouring rain one minute and sunshine the next. Not the best weather to be without the car we sold yesterday.

I am feeling very mixed up this week. On one hand I am looking forward to the new chapter back in Australia, on the other I am dreading leaving the life we have here, my home, my community and my friends. That mixed up feeling deserves a post of its own when I have time to think and write.

My son finished school today with a lovely final assembly and some very kind words from his teacher and principal. I have had coffees and lunches with friends and am getting ready for a very casual get together with kids and mums and dads tomorrow. Oh yes and I have made lists and lists and ticked off lots of necessary but rather tedious things - that is why that bench beckons...

  1. Hello Ann:
Yes, we agree that this entrance is very attractive. We love the symmetry andsimplicity of the planting, either side of the stepsand, as you say, the white painted bench is so inviting.

We can well understand the mixture of emotions which you are feeling about the move to Australia but are certain that, once settled, you will find life as full, happy and interesting as it has been in your previous home.

  2. Ah, moving can be so stressful. While actually like the process of sorting and packing and setting up a new home . . . it is the finding a new life after that is done that is hard. We are 8 months into our move to Chicago (from Seattle).

Hope your transition is smooth and you get some restful beach days.

    Fondly,
    Glenda

  3. Hi Ann,
I love that seat. I want it. And I want the pillow on it too. :o)
Hope all goes well for you this week - that transition time is hard - but it has to be got through to enjoy the next stage. Enjoy your last week in Auckland. I hope the sun comes out for you.

  4. Oh, Ann. Thanks for snapping that beauty for it. It really is inviting. You're giving me ideas for the PB HQ. Thinking of you, Lovely, as the Big Departure approaches. J x

  5. Oh good luck with the move. It is a very topsy turvy time. At least your most important people are moving with you.
I just love this porch, the seat the colours everything.
I would love to do something like that but I have a tom cat that keeps spraying on the pot near my front door. It is disgusting.

  7. I can appreciate your hesitation Ann. Starting over is always a challenge and lots of energy is required. Perhaps you should just sit on that bench for five minutes (or any seat for that matter) and take a few deep breaths! gxo

  8. I can understand what you are going through as I spent over half my life moving countries using Sydney as a base between moves. I am a kiwi and although I still sound like a kiwi I would have trouble advising tourists on where to go in NZ:-)but love to tell my French customers how gorgeous both countries are. Wishing you a very happy "last week" in Auckland.

  10. hi, just found your blog by chance, I do love your collection of doors, I'm a big fan of front doors too, just like your taste. There's plenty of gorgeous doors over here in Oz, don't know if that makes you feel a bit more happier about the move, probably not right now! I'm over here in Melb, is that where you're heading, or Syd??? or somewhere else perhaps!

  12. That bench looks wonderful. I could sit there all day - reading, writing, sipping a latte... mmm!

As for the moving - I can only imagine all the things you have to think about, but I am sure all will be well. Good luck!
